What Is Launch Literacy?

Launch Literacy is a structured literacy training pathway grounded in the Science of Reading. At its core is Tattum Reading, an intensive and comprehensive program developed by Steve Tattum to integrate decoding, language comprehension, fluency, vocabulary, and meaning-making within a consistent lesson framework. It uses instructional techniques informed by current brain research and a multi-sensory phonics board that provides immediate visual and tactile support as students build, manipulate, read, and spell words, making abstract phonics concepts concrete.

Instruction is diagnostic, adaptive, and responsive. A comprehensive curriculum with a clearly defined scope and sequence provides a consistent pathway while allowing instruction to be individualized for each learner.

Tattum books use a controlled and cumulative phonics progression. They are written in multiple genres with continuous story lines across series, and are for a range of ages, including older students who need books that match their reading level without feeling childish. These books help transfer the phonics concepts learned to connected text which helps students not only build fluency fast but also build vocabulary and language comprehension with richer complex text.
